As the year 2010 comes to a close, the SVM Addicts decided to take a look back at SVM Fandom and pull out a few stories to recommend. But first let's look at a few fic statistics for this year.
  • Total number of SVM Fics published in 2010: 1,198
  • Total Number of True Blood Fics: 1,060
  • SVM is the 25th most popular in the Book category with 2,387 stories.
  • True Blood is the 77th most popular in the TV category with 1,707 stories.
  • Eight contests were completed in 2010 resulting in over 177 new fics (including the samples).
  • First SVM Fic published of the year:  Dead and Alive by LJ Clark
  • First TB Fic published of the year: A Little Piece of Vampire Chocolate by VicVega66
**These stats are from Fanfiction.net only (as of 12/ 30) since it has the largest collection of SVM/TB fanfiction stories

I think the numbers are pretty impressive considering the SVM/TB fandom is a little smaller than most! Most of my stats are from Fanfiction.net but I do have to be sure to mention that many writers found success on other fanfiction archive sites, such as Jan-of-Arc on LiveJournal. And there were others who ventured into the blogosphere and chose to publish their stories there, like Ericizmine. No matter where the story was published (Evenflo78 published her very popular Instincts in the TB category), this year the SVM/TB fandom grew by over 50%.

Blogger note:  Here we are .. the last SVM Addict confession of 2010! The last person to volunteer to join my merry band of addicts was tvgirl. She is a very busy lady so I'm happy to have her join us to chat about the fics we love to read.  And by busy, I mean have you checked her fanfiction profile before? She has five one-shots, and I'm kind of surprised that she hasn't tried her hand at a multi-chapter yet. She recently co-hosted the New Chapter Contest, which is in voting stage .. *don't forget to vote in the "New to AH Category. She's active on in the fanfiction.net forums AND she's one of the brains behind TheSookieverse.com. And that's just a small tidbit of what she does. I could go on and on about this lovely lady .. like did you know that she betas and pre-reads, too.  Whewee! And on top of all of this .. she's addicted to fanfiction, too!  Well, I'm going to let her tell you in her own words about her love for these stories.  So if you haven't met her yet, let me introduce you to tvgirlSVM ...

Hi my name is tvgirlSVM and I'm an SVM addict ...

What was the first fanfiction story you read?

I came late to the SVM party by way of getting into True Blood mid-way through Season 2 in 2009 and reading the SVM books that summer all the way through Dead and Gone. In Sept. ’09 I was looking for something to tide me over during the year-long wait *groan* for more TB and SVM and decided to check out fanfiction.com. Dying to Know by Hellbunnyofdoom just happened to be the most recently updated, and therefore top-of-the list story when I browsed SVM and Eric/Sookie. I originally searched out post-DaG fics, but eventually (thankfully!) ran out of those and found all the post-FDtW wonders of Terri Botta, Meg2, FarDareisMai2 and more (see Scribeninja’s Old School Fics post.

Blogger note:  Have you met Steph or her stories yet? Steph is one of my quiet addicts but she's definitely there .. on fanfiction.net and on Twitter. Little known fact about Steph .. she has a Happy Days fic! It features Joanie, Chachi, and Fonzie! Aaaaaaaaay! In SVM, most of Steph stories are contest entries -- Cowboy Up!, Age of Eric, and I Write the Songs. And there's also a Weekly One Shot challenge entry. Her multi-chapter story, Do Something That Scares You Everyday, finds Sookie working at an international boarding school and rooming with Eric.  I'm looking forward to finding out about Steph's fanfiction addiction so let me introduce you to beatlechicksteph ...

What was the first fanfiction story you read?

I honestly can't remember the first fanfiction story I read.  I've been a fan of fan fiction since high school, so when I finished reading all 8 SVM books in a month, I immediately went to FF.net and started going through and reading everything I could find.  The first SVM fanfic I put on alert, though was EricDreamer's Dead and Dating.

Blogger note:  I met Suze on Twitter but it feels like I've known her forever.  She has a couple of fanfiction stories for you to check out.  Her first story, The Pact, won first place for public vote in the Poppin' Cherries contest. And then she went on to write the very popular A Royal Engagement. One is all human and the other is canon, and both are winners.  Now as a reader, my girl doesn't do angst. Well, she reads some ... but only if the story is complete and the 'tolerable' angst is solved.  So if you gasp at the idea of even calling yourself an 'angst-whore' then check out this confession and her recommendations.  Fluffiness is guaranteed.  Now let me stop the rambling and introduce you to my homie, SuzapaloozaFF ...

Hi my name is SuzapaloozaFF and I'm a SVM addict ...

What was your first fanfiction story?

Honestly, I have no clue. I found fanfiction when I started perusing the True Blood Wiki. There wasn't much there at the time, but I still read any canon Eric/Sookie fic I could find. I discovered fanfiction.net when I was reading Late by Morgaine Swann. Morgaine Swann made a note that she was updating the fic faster over there so I followed. I found the screen easier to read and whole world of fanfiction. I was ecstatic. It was probably ridiculously pathetic, but oh well. LOL

    Peppermintyrose presents
    The Saint Eric Contest

Write a story that is different from the rest. And by different, we mean it follows a different story line or  portrays the SVM characters differently from the status quo -- the common themes in SVM fanfiction repertoire.  Recently, there's been a lot of chatter about fics telling the same story.  Well this contests challenges you to be different.

Instead of writing a Sookie we love to hate, or an Eric so perfect that readers will worship; flip the script. How about trying to not make Bill a douche, or Quinn a wimp.  Are you up for the challenge? How unique can you be?  Like Peppermintyrose states on the contest profile page, "give us a St. Eric like we've never seen."

    "Think out of the canon-box-set!"

.: Fic Updates and More :.

Blogger note: Most know her as SlackerDee, a writer who has gifted us with some of the sexiest Alcides in SVM Fandom. Have you read Cowboys and Angels or are following the on-going It's Your Song fics? I'm hoping to dive into Secrets That Kill very soon. Her Alcides tend to be rustic and down-to-earth. But a good Alcide is just one thing in her fanfic repertoire. She also has a lot of great Eric and Sookie pairings as well. Recently winning both the judges favorite and public vote for the Seven Deadly Sins contest, SlackerDee has proven their isn't a pairing or situation she won't try. Don't believe me .. check out her latest, 'Stay' for I Write the Songs Contest. This fic was thought provoking and will make you look at Sookie AND Eric in a different way. Speaking of creating a different type of story, check out the contest she's co-hosting called Happily (N)ever After. Oh my ... I went on about a few of her stories and didn't get to tell you that she is a true reader as well who has no problems recommending a good story or two. If you follow her on twitter, FanficDee, or see her recs on Fanfictastic Friday, you will see what I mean. Ok enough gushing about my girl, let me introduce you to SlackerDee ...

      --------------------------------------------------------

Hi my name is SlackerDee and I'm a SVM addict ...

What was the first fanfiction story you read?

The first SVM fanfiction I read was MissConstrued's Sorry Ladies, Northman's Off The Market. I was bored one day and thought I'd dive into some SVM fanfiction because I liked the books. I like lengthy fics that will hold my attention for awhile and NOM hit the mark. I was hooked and I read every single one of her fics within a two day period. Its kinda been downhill ever since. lol
