This is a recommendations post where I ask readers to recommend stories around a particular topic. In the Four Star General post we pooled together fics set during war-time. For this post, I asked for Vampire Sookie.
Recently I started a story called Queen Sookie by GajinVamp. While not my first Vampire Sookie story, it left me wondering are there any others out in the SVM World. Here's what I found out.
Fics with stars («) next to them have multiple recommendations. The star represents the number of recommendations for that story.

Many thanks to everyone who participated in this post.

"This is quirky because Sookie is shot by Debbie Pelt and Amnesia Eric turns her, Real Eric wakes up with his own mind back to discover he has a new child.
There are two sequels to this fic - Sookie is Stunning and The Rhodes Less Travelled. Probably best not to read them if you're a Bill fan." -- Janofarc
"This story is the first in a series that starts in book four. It is followed by Sookie is Stunning and The Rhodes Less Traveled. So what would happened if Debbie Pelt succeeded in killing Sookie, amnesiac Eric turned her, and re-gained/lost his memories by the next day? We get this three part adventure! As with Suki59's other Vampire Sookie story, Taking Flight, the writer is inventive and very creative in weaving her tale. This story started off as an entry to a Weekly One Shot Challenge about turning Sookie and evolved very differently from the other one-shot. Check it out." -- Sapfirerose
"Pam is a proud mommy, and jealous on her maker's attraction towards her progenity - who is no one else but our dear Sookie." -- KiraKiralina
"I love this story and all of its original characters. This Eric is superb - badass but so in love with Sookie. Sookie is sort of in character. She is in love with Eric, cares about others and sometimes does stupid things when trying to help others. There are lots of interesting things that happens, plot twists and turns, as well as plenty of ESN. I totally recommend this story and Need which came before it." -- Northwoman
"Beyond Need is the sequel to Need, you would have figured that out yourself right? Sookie is now a vampire and Eric is teaching her all about how to be a really dangerous but really elegant one. I think one of the things I love about BN is the wealth of original characters. They are so well developed you will think they are canon!
Twisty and turning plot that will keep you enthralled, best of all it updates nice and regularly." -- Alison at Northman Maille/Alison by Numbers
"Unlike many of the fics this story has Bill as Sookie's maker but it is a Sookie/Eric story - or it would be if the gods would keep they're noses out!
If you want something a little off the ""Sookie let's Eric turn her so they can be together forever"" track then this might be for you. I haven't read all of this yet but what I did read was a little on the angsty side - hopefully things will get brighter though." -- Janofarc
"This is a short, quite angsty fic about Eric and Sookie as vampires. Felipe de Castro forced Sookie's turning and Eric did not forgive him for it. In fact, he killed him. See what happens." -- Northwoman
"Rather than the standard vampire Sookie fic, where it's a good thing that Sookie is turned, AllHailAugustus gives us the realistic view of the problems being turned that Sookie would face. Vampire Sookie fics tend toward the SuperSookie dynamic but in this story, vampires are still a problem for her, even though she is one." -- Peppermintyrose
"This is a retelling of the trunk incident from Club Dead. In this Bill drains Sookie but she is rescued and turned by Eric. It's more 'realistic' than her being nursed back to health by TrueBlood mixed with apple juice lol. This one isn't complete either but the 6 chapters that are available are a fairly good representation of what Canon Sookie might do upon finding herself waking up with fangs." -- Janofarc
"Eric robs Bill of the chance to be Sookie's maker after draining and raping her in the infamous Jackson trunk. All her post-mortem sensations and acting looked very realistic. She is not stupid here - big points in my book." -- Kira Kiralina
"This fic has everything I love - a devious Eric and Felipe De Castro! *faints* Plus, Vampire Sookie kicks major ass in this one." -- SouthernLady23
"Sheba always says in her disclaimer that the SVM characters are CH's sandbox and that she just takes them out to play sometimes. That's not really true, well CH does own some characters but you really wouldn't recognise them. Sookie is sassy and knows what she wants, Eric is tough when he needs to be but is so sweet with Sookie you will melt. This story is so exciting and has fantastic plot twists, I won't tell you when Sookie becomes a vampire in it because it will spoil all your fun! Look out for all the clues Sheba works into her writing." -- Alison at Northman Maille/Alison by Numbers
"This is the sequel to Happily Never After. The story is complete. It is rather angsty but ends up fine. Sookie is a vampire throughout the story and Eric is her husband." -- Northwoman
"Posted the URL for the first story, Dead Wrong. I rec this series because it was written by the awesome Meg2 -- need I say more?" -- Ehee
"I just started this fic a couple weeks ago so I'm not finished with the story. I am recommending it because it's the fic that started this whole post. GajinVamp offers a unique story line that makes you want to read to find out what happens, and so far I haven't been able to predict a thing. Sookie is the Vampire Queen of Louisiana and she hires a new CPA to take over her financial records. This story is completed and she continued it into a series by adding two more fics to the group: The Wedding and Evil Fun: A Queen Sookie Story." -- Sapfirerose
"She get some fresh part fairy blood, in an attractive package from Ireland. Much to Eric's delight. Can't wait for a threesome in it." -- KiraKiralina
"This four chapter story is a sequel to Taking Flight. In the previous story, the foundation is set and we find out what leads to Sookie's turning. The continuation is about what happens after Sookie is turn. I thought about grouping the two rec's together but I like this story for a different reason, and that's because of Suki59's insight on what will happen to Sookie's powers after being turned. Check it out, but remember to read Taking Flight first." -- Sapfirerose
"The first fic I've ever read where Sookie becomes a vampire. Suki59 published this July 2009 as an answer to the Weekly One Shot Challenge, "Accept that some days you are the pigeon and some days the statue". (Side Pimp: Suki59 now hosts the 2010 version of this challenge.) After 8 years away from vampires, Sookie seeks Eric's help revive her life and avenge what was stolen from her. I loved this short short story because it's very imaginative. Even though the story is under 1,000 words, it flows with so much depth that you feel like there's 10,000 words. The ending is in Eric's POV and was very insightful and provided a great foundation for the four chapter continuation, Sookie's Turn. If you are skeptical about reading Vampire Sookie stories, I recommend checking this short one out." -- Sapfirerose
"I liked this story from the first chapter. It was the first one I've read where Sookie started off being a vamp, wasn't turned somewhere along the way. It's a great role reversal - Sookie is the 1000 yr old vampire and Eric is the human telepath. Sookie is Sheriff in a small town and Eric is a drifter because his telepathy alienates him from other humans. When he meets Sookie his whole world changes and so does hers." -- Bontempscutie
"I love everything about this story, it really turns SVM on it's head. Sookie is a vampire Sheriff in an odd little town when she meets a blond telepath who is passing through...who can that be a I wonder? Sexy, dramatic and unputdownable." -- Alison at Northman Maille/Alison by Numbers
"Tradermare's first multi-chapter story is about Vampire Sookie. Yes, Vampire Sookie. She's not turned and is not the Sookie of the canon we are used to. In this story, Eric is the telepath who meets the owner of a small town bar, who he can't 'read' like he does the others. Yes, in this alternative universe the roles are reversed. But thankfully it's not a total reversal .. so Eric isn't a stubborn waiter in Bon Temps, and Sookie a thousand year old Swedish vampire. This work-in-progress is little complex and a little dark ... and only because vampires are still kind of a secret in this universe. It's a very intriguing read that you should check out if you are looking for a unique story line." -- Sapfirerose
"This is the sequel to It's About Time - a wonderful 99% angst free Eric/Sookie fic, probably a good idea to read this first since it starts right where It's About Time leaves off.
Unlike the story that precedes it, Time for a Change has a plot to follow and a bad guy. While It's About Time was flufftastic, this fic is more serious despite the fun, new original characters the author introduces.
If you like weddings, Pam in top form and making fun of Bill - these are the fics for you." -- Janofarc
"Stunning, believable canon driven story with unusual complications from Sookie being turned by Eric. Romantic, intense, immersive. This story, her turning, could be a standalone but it actually follows a series of small stories: Dead and Gone With the Wind, My Telepathic Friend, Dead Accord, Dead Reckoning, Dead Set, So Hard, and Alliance -- also very worth reading. Meg's story is the first I read when I found FFNet. What a brilliant story to start off with!
Everything she writes is far beyond the abilities of most other writers. She's got involving characters she's made to accompany some of her stories that are every bit as interesting as Eric and Sookie. " -- Nycsnowbird
"Turning Point comes near the end of Meg2's Dead series and tells a tale of vampire Sookie only as Meg2 can. It's a beautifully written story that keeps Sookie in character while expanding her and making her more interesting and complicated than we usually expect. Sookie makes an unusual vampire, to say the least. If you're unfamiliar with Meg2's stories, I can't recommend them enough, and Turning Point is no exception." -- Suki59
"This author is the very first I read on fanfiction. Her Dead Series was the first I read and set the bar very high for others as I read fanfiction. I love the whole series, it is smart and romantic. This story is where Sookie becomes vampire. Her adjustment to vampire "life" has some issues but it is a great story, not to be missed." -- Northwoman
"This specific story is the last part of Meg2, Dead Series. It is a heart-ripping story that is so well done. All of Meg2's stories are fabulous, but Turning Point is my number one favorite of all the vampire Sookie stories, hands down." -- Tradermare
" I really enjoyed reading this series. What I found very interesting was that Meg2's Sookie could be so infuriating at times, which to me means that she kept her character true to canon. Therefore this made Meg2's story of turning Sookie very believable, as if Charlaine Harris herself came up with the idea. But that's not the end of this story, the Turning Point is laced with action and adventure right at the point ... well where Sookie is turned." -- Sapfirerose

I love this. Now I have several new stories to put on my 'to-read' list. I haven't read half of these and they're recommended by names I trust. Thanks!
All love all these big rec posts! So much easier than weeding through FanFiction on your own.
Okay, I must have been severely distracted by the GP, and possibly even glamored to have forgotten to recommend DCWriter16's series in which Sookie is turned by Pam. Start with The Deep (yes, you will cry), then read it's prequel, In the Evening. Follow those with Dark Summer, Rise, The Dead, and Gone Missing. They are all one-shots and written with the kind of heart that only DCWriter16 can give us. One word can perfectly describe these: beautiful. Now, go read them.
A couple of years late, but then I was just perusing the Sookieverse and found the link.
I have two Vamp Sookie stories so far:
Baby Vamp Sookie: The first year http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8202984/1/Baby_Vamp_Sookie_The_first_year
and the sequel
Baby Vamp Sookie: The Pledging http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8276182/1/Baby_Vamp_Sookie_The_Pledging
You are the answer to my prayers.
