As the year 2010 comes to a close, the SVM Addicts decided to take a look back at SVM Fandom and pull out a few stories to recommend. But first let's look at a few fic statistics for this year.
- Total number of SVM Fics published in 2010: 1,198
- Total Number of True Blood Fics: 1,060
- SVM is the 25th most popular in the Book category with 2,387 stories.
- True Blood is the 77th most popular in the TV category with 1,707 stories.
- Eight contests were completed in 2010 resulting in over 177 new fics (including the samples).
- First SVM Fic published of the year: Dead and Alive by LJ Clark
- First TB Fic published of the year: A Little Piece of Vampire Chocolate by VicVega66
**These stats are from Fanfiction.net only (as of 12/ 30) since it has the largest collection of SVM/TB fanfiction stories
I think the numbers are pretty impressive considering the SVM/TB fandom is a little smaller than most! Most of my stats are from Fanfiction.net but I do have to be sure to mention that many writers found success on other fanfiction archive sites, such as Jan-of-Arc on LiveJournal. And there were others who ventured into the blogosphere and chose to publish their stories there, like Ericizmine. No matter where the story was published (Evenflo78 published her very popular Instincts in the TB category), this year the SVM/TB fandom grew by over 50%.
Now there wasn't a way to do a full representation of all the great stories published this year or this post would have been miles long. So I enlisted the SVM Addicts help and asked if they could give me at least one fic to recommend this year. Being fanfiction addicts, and there's 22 of us, some still couldn't keep it to one rec, including moi! So below are 30 plus stories recommendations of some of the great stories published this year.
Just by looking at the stats above, I know there are some really good stories we are missing but it was impossible to call out all of them. So, if you want to add your favorite to list, please feel free to do so! Just add it to the comments section.
SVM Addicts 2010 Fanfic Recommendations
- Alcide in Wonderland by EricIzMine This is a companion story to the wildly popular, 'Saints and Sinners'. It gives us Alcide's view of things from S&S, but we also get to see so much more. There are things going on that we never knew about... ~Carolinagirl96a
- April Showers by kittensandcombatboots Pam is a seven year old girl and daughter to Eric Northman when she meets and befriends Sookie. Fast paced and Pam at her snarky best, this story is a must read for Eric, Sookie and especially Pam fans. ~beatlechicksteph
- Bored to Death by EricIzMine What if Sookie met Eric first? This is the Sookie we all wish she was- smart, funny and sexy. (and so is Eric!) ~Northwoman
- Couples Therapy by Evenflo78 Best friends, Eric & Sookie, can't seem to maintain lasting relationships. When they see a therapist for help and it is suggested they date one another to help learn what they are each doing wrong, things get interesting! ~SuzapaloozaFF
- Crazy by Elbly This very original, well-written, and dark one-shot poses the question: What if the entire SVM world were simply in the mind of a dangerous mental patient named Eric Northman? ~Suki59
- Dead at Sea by Seastarr08 How can you not want to read about Eric as a salty pirate? Toss in a broken hearted Sookie looking to find herself and happiness, the eventual hot ESN, a visit from NH's Cat and Bones and you get...Dead at Sea. ~Missus T
- Dead to My World by afalcone10 Have you ever wondered what would have happened if the first vampire Sookie ever met was a cursed Eric, running down her road? This take on the SVM canon world is refreshing and mesmerizing, and also has my all time favorite vampire Eric. ~Scribeninja
- Dead with the Vikings by Thyra10 Transported back in time, Sookie finds herself face to face with Viking Eric and certainly makes the best of it. This is a page-turning romantic history lesson before it plops Sookie back into the present, forever changed by her life with human Eric. ~Suki59
- Drained by Suki59 Another amazing Suki59 story! Sookie fears Eric but goes to him for help, only to find he needs her help first. Going into hiding together leads to something wonderful. ~SuzapaloozaFF
- Fangtasia Stories by Honeypop A humorous look behind the scenes at Fangtasia guaranteed to make you laugh until you cry. ~Lubadub
- Fast Approaching Death by Kira Kiralina The setting of a post-communist Romania and a pair of protagonists seemingly completely different but very much alike, makes for an excellent read and a refreshing take of our favorite couple. Kira Kiralina takes us to a trip down the rabbit hole, to discover the true characters that lie beneath layers of mystery, dark secrets, unspoken fears and tormenting desires, weaving an enchanting story with great art. Eric’s open bisexuality is an extra spice in the mix. ~svmaddict
- Growing New Vines by Ethehunter Food Writer Sookie is intrigued by the new chef that has come to town, Chef Northman. With wine, food, and family at the heart of their meeting, will sparks fly? The witty repartee and awesome recipes make this into an awesome read. ~Math Princess
- Halo Effect by Missus T Inspired by an Entertainment Weekly PopWatch blog post about Alexander Skarsgård at the Golden Globe Awards in January 2010, this fic has been an ongoing weekly source of all-human drama, love, lust and fun with Food Writer Sookie, Actor Eric, the Northman brothers Sven and Chris, Michigan, Hollywood celebs, batshit crazy actresses and the paparrazi for the entirety of 2010. The fic is still in progress, and Hollywood's awards season is upon us again in real life. I wonder what else will inspire Missus T before it's a wrap. ~tvgirlSVM
- Head Full of Doubt: Road Full of Promise by Scribeninja What would happen if the SVM canon was all human? Eric only pretends to be a vampire and telepathic Sookie doesn't want to be a waitress all her life. Scribeninja's take is story weaving at its finest AND it has humor, mystery, and intrigue. ~sapfirerose
- Hot for Teacher by MakesMyHeadSpin At a chance meeting in a bar, Sookie meets a handsome bartender who turns her life upside down and makes her hot for teacher. ~SlackerDee
- I Hope You Dance by Makesmyheadspin A wonderfully mature and strong teenage couple, Eric and Sookie have to deal with the aftermath of becoming pregnant at seventeen. This story deals with important life issues that happen to teens, and are too often handled badly, and it does it realistically. ~scribeninja
- I Love You, But I’ve Chosen The Darkness by Greenlemons Greenlemons first adventure into the Sookieverse has Sookie finally settled into a relationship with Eric. With the interruption of his maker, the King, her cousin Claude and a whole lot more, Sookie has to decide if it is all worth it in the end. Gripping, heart wrenching and totally a trip into the Sookieverse you want to take. ~Dazed-Rose
- It's Your Song by SlackerDee Alcide is a country music superstar and Sookie is the love that was lost. Can they overcome some pretty big obstacles to find their way back to the love they once shared? ~Carolinagirl96a
- Law and Order Shreveport by kjwrit AH, Complete, the first fic of this favorite author. It starts hot and continues sweet and exciting. Sookie is the talented ADA and Eric is a detective. Can they build a relationship with their work and the criminals trying to defeat them? I seriously reread this whenever I need something. ~Northwoman
- Leap of Faith by Missus T Everyone makes mistakes, but second chances are precious and require a leap of faith. ~SlackerDee
- Life, Accidental by chaneladdict Funny, snarky, hilarious, hot, cute, and often serious, this story has a little something for everyone. Eric and Sookie rub each other the wrong way and suddenly have to raise a one year old together. The plot and character progression is realistic, and the tension is palpable. Sit back and enjoy! ~scribeninja
- Secrets That Kill by SlackerDee When a serial killer strikes Bon Temps FBI Agent Alcide Herveaux must return to a place he never wanted to see again and gets a lot more than he bargained for. Filled with romance and a lot of edge-of-your-seat action, Secrets that Kill has it all. ~aredheadthing
- Shades of Dawn by AshleySue Eric. A guitar. A broken soul. Can someone you barely know be the one to save you? A tale of loss and love with a rockin' beat. ~Missus T
- Skullcrusher Mountain by SophieMyst Why wouldn't you want to read about Eric Northman as a mad scientist who lives on a mountain with such a name? I did, and I almost cried I was laughing so hard. Do yourself a favor and check out the song it's based on too. ~scribeninja
- Terminal Attraction by Lubadub A different destination for each romp, this fic started off as a PWP and turned into a hilarious story. Will stewardess Sookie be enough for Pilot Eric to stop his no strings attached ways? Oh and Pilot E is hot! Trust! ~sapfirerose
- The Darkest Hour by Meg2 Perhaps the most intense of all of Meg's stories, this is part of her most recent series that takes place right after Dead and Gone. Do yourself a favor and read the whole series beginning with Dead Wrong. ~bontempscutie
- The Dead Man of Shreveport by Miral This goes back to the end of book 3 and continues the fun, light hearted mystery themes of those first few books. ~Jan-of-Arc
- The Heat is in the Tools by Miss Construed Susannah Stackhouse, prim, uptight and fully in control interior designer, meets her match in our favorite handyman, Alcide Herveaux. Watch the sparks fly as Susannah finally loses control! ~bontempscutie
- The Ribbon by Scribeninja Set in the 40's, Eric and Sookie are sweethearts. Their love is tested during the war and in its aftermath. This story is set during a period of innocence and love is true. I've already read this story mulitiple times this year. If you haven't read it once, do it. You will love it. ~sapfirerose
- The Ties that Bind Me by Djehmli An AU story where after Sookie meets Eric for the first time, she is taken by Bill to the Queen and what happens years later when our story starts. This story has been a joy to read and completely perked this readers interest. This is one of those stories that inspires me to shout from the twitter rafters "THIS IS AWESOME". ~lilabitblf
- Windows on the World by tvgirlSVM It deals with the serious subject of 9/11, but it's not only about that. Far from it. It's about the relationship of two human beings and while the event is an instrumental thing in the course of their lives, it's not the end of their story. ~scribeninja
- You Should be Mine by AshleySue Canon, what if story. What if, starting in Definitely Dead, when Quinn asked if she was Eric's, Sookie didn't say "Not." This is so what I prefer would have happened. ~Northwoman

What a great list of recs. I'd have to add a mention of Bon Temps Baby's story Addicted to Love, as this year it achieved over 4000 reviews ... the first SVM fanfic to do so I believe! It's the absolute best story on fanfic as well of course, incredibly detailed, brilliantly plotted, completely engaging and hot hot hot.
Tattybean
Thanks Tattybean! I forgot all about A2L!! I meant to mention that over 20 fics were blessed with over 1,000 reviews this year. And of those stories like BTB's Addicted to Love were reviewed above and beyond that. Good job to all the readers out there who showed up to support writes, newbies and veterans.
Was 'A little piece of Vampire Chocolate' really the first TB story of 2010? Wow! I just checked the date and it is! Amazing how the year has flown by.
It's one of the first one shots I wrote and I'm really proud of it, it's unbeta'd (I had no idea what a beta was in those days and/or how to go about looking for one) and looking back I can see things I want to change and edit etc, it's still my baby though.
Sapf, thanks for all your help during 2010, without your rec's, interviews, tireless and relentless plugging the fandom wouldn't be half what it is today.
Three cheers for Sapf, Hip, hip, hooray! Hip, hip, hooray!
And that's quite enough of the mushy stuff...I don't do mushy...;0)

Oh, was this supposed to be about my favourite stories of 2010?
Chains that bind - Twitche/Giblet the great
http://gibletthegreat.livejournal.com/1026.html?view=1538#t1538
Twitche is re posting this on LJ, it's a dark and deliciously twisted story. Eric is a full on dark and bad ass vampire sheriff, Sookie is fiesty and gives as good as she gets..
The Arrangement - Tex and NYC
http://community.livejournal.com/tex_nyc/
Bad ass vamp Eric and fiesty Sookie, dark and involving and very entertaining.
Questionable Loyalty - Roux, Roux
http://roux100.livejournal.com/19257.html
Just started to go up on LJ, a re working of Season3, Eric as Russells vampire companion and Luitenant.
You'll need to 'friend' and send a DOB to read them on Live Journal.

Thanks Vic for your kind words! *hugs* And an even bigger thanks for recommending those stories! Especially since they aren't on Fanfiction.net. There are so many good stories not on Fanfiction.net that were published this year ... Ericizmine has a couple on her above mentioned blog. Also, Lubadub has a few that are solely on her blog. Janofarc definitely has some great ones on her Live Journal and EricNorthman.net accounts.
Thanks for pointing this out!
Lots of time and thought went into this post, and I'm pretty sure each and every post you make. You're truly a blessing to the fandom Sapf!! Love you! Thanks for the Instinct's nod as well.
It's amazing how much the fandom has grown over the past year. Even in the True Blood category.
Thanks to each of you that put the time and thought in for this post. The fandom would not be what it was without the love and support of so many great people. Authors, readers, and reviewers alike. The support and love makes this a great fandom to be a part of.
