» A Funny Little Thing Called Fate by Jayni
"This fic was a complete surprise to me. Jayni has the characters down, but her storyline is absolutely unique. I've never read the like, as far as plot. Sookie and Eric accidentally switch phones, and then Eric enters into Sookie's life to try to get his phone back and give back hers, and enters a most unusual celebration. This story is told from Eric's POV, and the tone is set quite nicely. Every chapter draws the readers further into an intriguing set up." -- peppermintyrose
» Abracadabra by Honeypop
"Honeypop is known for her humorous romps and Pam/Eric snark. In Abracadabra, she takes an old 80s anthem by the Steve Miller band and turns it into a love spell! Whom would you want to see if you cast a spell to find your perfect partner? That’s just what Sookie and Amelia do one quiet night with very hilarious results. A gorgeously light and funny story than contrasts perfectly with some of the darker stories that made the final cut. Guaranteed to make you laugh, you’ll be quoting lines from it to each other for quite a while, well written and a real treat." -- Alison at Northman Maille
» Bring Me to Life by My Universe
"My Universe is new to fan fiction and this is her very first contest but you would never know that from this polished piece. In it, she rewrites the events of the Rhodes’ summit and asks the question, ‘When did Quinn start to hatch his plot to betray Sookie and the Louisiana vampires to De Castro?’ It is after the bonding but before the explosion that tore the Pyramid of Gizeh apart, Sookie decides to take matters into her own hands with the two men in her life. Eric has always accused her of being the one who runs from their relationship, what if Sookie turns the tables on Eric and makes him reveal his feelings? With some of the best Sookie/Eric dialogue I have ever read, ‘Bring Me to Life’ is a delight from beginning to end." -- Alison at Northman Maille
» Controlled Conditions by JillianK
"This fic takes some inspiration from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and puts it into SVM canon. What if vampires weren't well received after the Great Revelation, and it was humans who had power over them? This fic seeks to explore that. Eric is being experimented on by the Fellowship of the Sun, and Sookie is a lab technician - she's still a telepath, and he's still a vampire." -- peppermintyrose
» Crazy by Elbly ♥ ♥
"Crazy is an intense experience. The story opens with Eric speaking to Pam in an office, we don’t know where they are or what they are doing, all we know is nothing in Eric’s world is what it seems. Not the blood stains only he can see, or what role Pam and Bill play in this mystery or why people around him are telling him he has committed a terrible crime. A dark and emotional story, beautifully written, each paragraph takes you deeper into this world where reality and madness combine. Inside one’s own head, aren’t we all a little ‘Crazy’? You can almost hear the strains of the Patsy Cline song in the background... I won’t spoil the ending; in fact, you may not even agree with me what the ending was, but this story will lodge in your brain and stay with you. A truly accomplished and original read." -- Alison at Northman Maille
"I don't think there's one line of this that isn't perfection. Completely and utterly wonderful, and will hit you in the gut. An entry for the "I Write the Songs" contest - truly - give this one shot a go." -- peppermintyrose
» Damn Near Dead by At a Venture
"Sookie and Bill have broken up and he is with Selah now but she starts stalking Sookie. Who knew that you didn't need to be a vampire to become overtaken by the bloodlust?" -- Alison at Northman Maille
» Gold Digger by MissConstrued
"AH. I always enjoy this author’s stories. This story has Sookie as a sports star and representing the Word of the Day company! It is fun. Sookie mistakenly thinks Eric is a janitor instead of an executive with WOTD. She starts dating Bill who is a photographer. He turns out to be a douche (my favorite role for him). Will she get a chance with Eric?" -- Northwoman
» Love the Way You Lie by Seastarr08
"No one could ever describe Seastarr08 as a virgin author, she is well known and her stories well loved throughout the fandom. Love the Way You Lie seems like a real departure for her at first, with its strong themes of violence and domestic abuse, but she handles it all beautifully to bring us a haunting story that has real impact. This is a very difficult subject to tackle in any circumstances, but in a contest with a word limit to adhere to it becomes even more so. By careful and sensitive handling of the topic and proper research (a huge hot button of mine), Seastarr08 manages to make this story as engaging as it is thought provoking. She never goes for the easy route and does not sully the message with a tacked on happy ever after or lemon scene. A grown up story with great characterisation and the standard of writing we have come to associate with this author." -- Alison at Northman Maille
» River Man by vikinglover elle
"Author’s teaser- Sookie meets a strange man down by the river and she wonders if he's the River Man her brother tells her stories about. And he's not the man who lives in a van, down by the river. AU/OOC. Vampire Eric, telepathic Sookie. Sookie is eight when she meets Eric at the river behind the farm house. It is her secret place. Jason has been telling her stories about the River Man who eats little girls. Here is what Eric thinks about Sookie -- She's only eight and running around talking to strange men: "Since meeting Sookie, I've had to take precautions. I never ran into anyone at the river before and I'd hate for her to see me in a compromising situation. I don't want to corrupt an innocent. Maybe her knowing me is corrupting her already. She does takes away my loneliness, which is unexpected. I haven't thought about my human children in over 900 years, yet she makes me yearn to see them again. She laughs at everything, asks the most asinine questions, and doesn't know when to shut up. Why do I enjoy her company again?" They build a relationship over the years by meeting nights down by the river after 8pm. The story has vignettes of when Sookie is 8, 12, 16, 18 and 21. Dark and romantic. This is very well-written, an excellent story. Oh yeah, and Bill is a douche!" -- Northwoman
» Selfless to the End by My Universe
"What if Sookie went to the tribunal with Bill and knew what the penalty was going to be for him staking Longshadow? Yes, yes I know it was Eric and I hate the Alan Ball effery as much as the next girl, but here it makes sense to the story line because it's very good news for the Viking. Sexy, clever and polished, a great read." -- Alison at Northman Maille
» The Weight by Miral
"Canon, AU. I enjoyed this story with so many new characters introduced. It was sad and doesn’t have too much Eric and Sookie. This is an interesting view of how things might be, when Sookie dies after natural life. This shows Eric and his family on Sookie’s side after her death." -- Northwoman
» When I’m 64 by Thyra10
"AH. I LOVE this. It fits the song well. The topic is lovely and reflects on the choices we make in life. I also like to think that sex at 64 will still be hot, as we are all headed to that age sooner or later. Sookie chooses to marry Sam and raise a family. After his death, will she and Eric have another chance? I love this line. "Oh, I`m on Viagra, all right. It`s a new brand called Sookie." It is an example of the fun humor in this story. When I think of Eric & Sookie I always think sex and humor, this story does not disappoint." -- Northwoman
» Zits! by Kristin Elizabeth
"An excellent one shot inspired by the random word generator and using the words 'beauty' and 'smiling'. Sookie has an unwelcome visitor when she is waiting for the Viking, but for once it's not Bill, Quinn or any of the usual suspects... Love it!" -- Alison at Northman Maille

Great recomendations! The I write songs comp just didn't get enough publicity and some of the authors featured could do with pimping out as they're so little known and under reviewed.
